With age, the tubular matrices of the enamel and dentin become constricted and thus the teeth darken. Also, red wine, coffee and tea can penetrate the enamel crystalline structure and darken the teeth.
There are several in-office procedures that are used for whitening teeth. We have found that the Zoom method provides the most predictable results.
The procedure is simple. It begins with a short preparation to cover your lips and gums, leaving only your teeth exposed. The clinician then applies the proprietary Zoom whitening gel, which was designed to be used with the Zoom light. The light and gel work together to gently penetrate your teeth, breaking up the stains and discolorations. The gel is applied for 3 fifteen minute sessions for a total of 45 minutes. During this time you can relax, watch TV or listen to music. The process actually enables you to lighten your teeth 5-6 shades in about an hour. Finally, you go home with your brighter, whiter smile.
The second method used to whiten teeth is the use of custom plastic trays. The bleaching solution is placed into the trays by the patient and worn for about an hour a day. Normally results are visible after the first treatment. It usually takes 4-7 days to reach the maximum whitening. The trays can be saved by the patient and additional bleach can be obtained for future use.
